Welcome to Week 18 of the Too Much Racing Game!

I wasn’t able to watch either of this week’s eligible races as the ALMS went on until 4am and the DTM was on at the same time as the MotoGP. The GP was moderately good – the first half featured a great battle between Rossi and Lorenzo but after halfway or thereabouts when it had been settled, I lost interest in the whole thing. I spent much of the weekend watching qualifying from Indy which was fun especially in the closing stages of each day, and I plan to write about that later in the week.

Quick-Start

Racing this week:

IndyCar – Indianapolis 500;

F1 – Turkish GP;

WRC – Rally Portugal;

NASCAR Sprint Cup – Coca-Cola 600, Charlotte;

Usual restrictions apply, pick up to 10 drivers, no more than 7 from one race.

The cutoff is Saturday 29th May at 4.59am BST (British Summer Time = GMT+1), that’s 11.59pm Friday night US EDT.

For the full results from Week 17, read on.

How To Enter

1. Reply to this post.

2. List up to 10 drivers, with no more than 7 from a single event.

3. Send your entry before the stated deadline. You can make as many changes as you like until the closing point, I’ll take your last entry.

Most weeks feature 2 or 3 races, some weeks may have more than that and some may only have one. There’s not a rule stating you have to choose a driver in each race, any combination of up to 10 drivers is accepted.

Just a short note if you missed it last week, I updated the Game section of the site which now contains an overview of the rules.

On to the results!

Wow, what a round for Sebastian and Speedgeek! Both had the three drivers who finished 1st and 2nd in the ALMS race, so 150 for the win and 120 for the 2nd place. Shows just how important it is to get those sportscar picks right – and how damaging it is when your picks don’t make the full distance, as happened to the Intersport and Drayson cars and to a lesser extent the Dyson. Startledbunny chose a couple of Corvette GT2 guys alongside the race winners and they secured top ten finishes overall, taking advantage of the thin prototype field and the attrition.

Nobody was hit by the Tomzcyk exclusion, nobody picked him.

This week really shook up the order!

Sebastian has taken a clear lead and The Speedgeek jumps into second position. Well done to both! I drop from 1st to 3rd, 83 points behind the leader. Sean is in a gap between 3rd and 5th and seems to be secure there for now but isn’t all that far back.

RG and James move ahead of Jon, James scoring the highest among the midfield runners. The three are still bunched together though.
Startledbunny has caught and passed Burwellian, who wasn’t around to make an entry last week.

Full results sheets are available on the TMR drop.io, the Total Driver page on the Data file won’t have been updated but isn’t relevant to the game.

Coming Up – Week 18

This week we have four events:

IndyCar – This is big race of the IndyCar season, the Indianapolis 500. Qualifying was at the weekend, here is the starting grid.

Formula 1 – Turkish GP at Istanbul Park.

WRC – Rally de Portugal. Here is the entry list (link to the PDF on left of page).

Sprint Cup – Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. nascar.com for more info.

I think that’s everything, any questions just ask in the comments, good luck and enjoy one of the best motorsport weekends of the whole year!

  3. He was excluded from the results, so it would be zero.
    This reminds me, I didn’t copy over the points penalty section of the rules. They were available in this post but I never added them to the Game rules.

  4. Ah, yes, rule 8. Presumably, the mathematical formula is only for when a points deduction is used as punishment. Am I right in deducing that this calculation means a driver picked could actually end up with a negative score, if the calculated penalty is higher than the TMR points for the driver’s finishing position? (Or if he is docked points and position.)

    (I can not remember which junior series it was but a driver won it with two rounds to spare, and at the penultimate round was, in a rare possibly unprecedented punishment, docked points for a misdemeanor. He was still in a position of not being able to be caught as his nearest rival had not done well, but the team-owner threatened not to run him at the last round just in case.)

  8. That’s correct because a position penalty would account for any changes in points. I reasonably sure only NASCAR does the post-race points penalties because they don’t tend to alter finishing positions after the race. I’m not aware that series penalises a position and then also deducts points, but it I suppose it is possible to get a negative score.
