RIP Dan Wheldon. Obviously the IndyCar race was abandoned and so no points have been awarded.

Spies and Lorenzo were ruled out of racing in the MotoGP due to injuries after crashing in practice and warm-up.

Not a good week.

Well done Gavin, a great F1 score there, the only one to pick 6 F1 drivers and they all finished in the top six!

The combination of the IndyCar no-score and the withdrawal of two front-running MotoGP riders made for some strange scores and a wide spread between players. It meant our championship protagonists tied despite initially picking differently.

Please see the score-by-score results produced by Sebastian.

We know the season is closing soon when the top players break 10,000 points..

Mav and Felipe switch places with me sitting in the middle.

Races This Week

MotoGP Sepang

If the Hondas have a power advantage they’ll surely love the long straights of Sepang. Note that Lorenzo will be missing this race as well so don’t pick him. No word on Spies yet, so it may be prudent not to pick him.

DTM Hockenheim

The penultimate race of the season and the final race in Europe. I think it totally bizarre to end the season outside Germany let alone outside Europe but that is what they are doing. Apparently this is the final race, that makes more sense..

NASCAR Cup Talladega

Talladega scares me after the events of last weekend. NASCAR pack racing is at least a little safer at lower speeds but it isn’t something I’ll be rushing to watch.

Coming Soon

To aid your planning these are the remaining races this season:

Week 40 – F1 Indian GP, NASCAR Cup Martinsville

Week 41 – MotoGP Valencia, NASCAR Cup Texas

Week 42 – F1 Abu Dhabi GP, ILMC Zhuhai 6 Hrs, NASCAR Cup Phoenix

Week 43 – NASCAR Cup Homestead-Miami

Week 44 – F1 Brazilian GP

  1. It was terrible news about Dan Wheldon. I did not realise that Las Vegas was such a high-sided oval. Dario Franchitti has complained in the past about the unsuitability of Texas for Indycar because of the steep banking.

I presume Spies will be OK. I may drop him later as news emerges.

  2. Thank heavens for Kenseth, kindly covered the damage of two MotoGP non-starters. Might have to start picking NASCAR heavy! Mind you, looking at the remaining schedule, I won’t have much choice in the matter. DTM Shanghai shouldn’t be on there I guess.

My gut feeling is that with Lorenzo out and some of the DTM guys looking a bit off-colour in recent races, NASCAR might not be so risky actually.

p.s. Pat, thanks for your tweets and retweets this week, covering a horrible situation

  3. Guys – just a note that one of us might have our email accounts infected with a virus, as it has been reported to me that there’s a suspicious message purporting to be from The Crooked Cap, but which likely wasn’t sent manually.
