Game Rules
Please pay particular attention to parts 2 and 4.
1. Blog Post.
1a. A post will be made to the blog once per week, entitled “TMR Game – Week xx” or similar. It will set out the scores to date, list the events for the coming weekend, and will invite players to submit entries for that weekend.
2. Game Entry.
2a. Players should make their entry by posting a comment in reply to the blog post (1a).
2b. If the blog post has not yet been published or the player is unable to reach it, the player may contact me via email, Twitter or any other means to submit their entry, including using a previous week’s blog post.
2c. A player may submit multiple entries for that week, and entries for multiple weeks. The admin will accept the last entry received before the deadline for a given week.
2d. Entries received away from the blog will be published to the blog by the admin.
2e. Existing players failing to submit an entry will be awarded points equal to 80% of the lowest score that week.
2f. Players joining late in weeks 2 – 8 will be awarded points equal to 80% of the lowest score in each weeks missed to date. From week 9 onward they will be awarded the sum total of these values for weeks 1-8.
2g. Players should include a valid email address in the submission box when entering so that they may be contacted for reminder emails. Please email toomuchracing(at)gmail.com if you would like to use an alternative address or would not like to receive emails.
3. Deadlines.
3a. To make the game fair to players in both Europe and North America (the regions with most players) the deadline will usually be set at 6am Saturday, London time, usually this equates to 1am ET in the US apart from when the clocks change.
3b. For the sake of consistency the deadline will remain the same for most weeks. I’ve found it is better to keep things simple and consistent rather than adapt to events happening each weekend. It may be necessary to vary it occasionally, notifications will be in the blog post.
4. Driver Choices.
Players make a new selection of drivers every week.
4a. Players may only choose drivers racing in the events listed in the blog post.
4b. Players may select up to a maximum of 10 drivers/cars.
4c. No more than 7 of these drivers/cars may taken from a single event; e.g. you can’t have 8 or more F1 drivers.
4d. There is no need to choose drivers from every event listed; e.g. if F1, IndyCar, NASCAR Cup and ALMS are racing you can choose 6 F1 and 4 IndyCar if you wish.
4e. If there is only one event that week, only 7 drivers may be selected in total, per 4c.
4f. In races with multiple drivers per car (e.g. at Daytona, Le Mans or in the ILMC/ALMS/LMS), the player will pick a car and not a driver. e.g. for Sebring you may want to choose the McNish/Kristensen/Capello Audi as one of your 10 picks.
4g. If a driver is competing in two events that week the player must nominate one event only for game scoring purposes. If the deadline is reached with no nomination I will automatically choose the series the driver usually races with, if there is one. If there isn’t one I’ll pick at will.
5. Scoring.
The scoring system and some of the rules above are based on the All-Racing Fantasy League (ARFL) developed by Andy, The Speedgeek. The ARFL system is loosely based around the IndyCar system. I have adapted the scoring by removing the bonus points for the sake of simplicity and consistency across series, e.g. some series do not provide stats to award ‘most laps led’ or ‘fastest lap’ points. I have not amended the other points.
5a. Here is the TMRG points system:
| Finishing Position | TMRG Points |
| 1 | 50 |
| 2 | 40 |
| 3 | 35 |
| 4 | 32 |
| 5 | 30 |
| 6 | 28 |
| 7 | 26 |

| 12 | 18 |
| 13 | 17 |
| 14 | 16 |

| 23 | 7 |
| 24 | 6 |
| 25 | 5 |
| 26 | 4 |
| 27 | 3 |

| 40 | 1 |
| 41 | 1 |
| 42 | 1 |
| 43 | 1 |
| 44 and down | 0 |
5b. Points are scored on race position only, not qualifying position.
5c. Sportscar races are scored by overall position and not class position.
6. Penalties
Position changes or points deductions assessed on competitors in the real series will apply to the game, retrospectively if necessary. The exception is if the penalty is applied more than three weeks after the final race of the year, after which the game will be considered completed – we have to end at some point.
6a. Changes to the race results will be amended in the game, unless the change occurs more than 3 weeks after the final round of the game at which point the game will be considered closed. This includes position changes, exclusions/disqualifications, etc.
6b. Points penalties, often the favoured choice in NASCAR rather than position changes, will be applied in the following manner:
TMRG penalty = ((Sanctioning body penalty) / (Sanctioning body points for a win)) * (TMRG points for a win [50])
Example: A driver is given a penalty of 10 points when a win is worth 25 points.
Penalty = ( 10 / 25 ) * 50
= 0.4 * 50
= 20
7. Prize.
The game is free to enter and the prize is to proclaim to the world, that “I Watch Too Much Racing”!

Okayama is question-marked. If you are taking votes on if to include it or not, I would vote against. There are three other events that week and the Okayama 1000 Kilometres is not a big well known event like Le Mans or even the Daytona 24 Hours. Shame it is not a week later as if the competition is still close, it would be good to finish with two events in the last week.
Just crossed my mind to check the Macau GP. What do you know? It is to be held on week 43.

What do you think? Too obscure or suitably unpredictable to shake up the last week? Just a suggestion.
I’d thought about Macau – I didn’t bring it up because I wasn’t sure how many people would follow F3. It is the biggest F3 race in the world though, and I guess if it is new to all or most of us then it would be a good leveller.
Okayama is included because it is part of the new-for-2010 ‘LM International Challenge’ so I’m hoping to see familiar drivers from LMS and ALMS, more than the ’09 race at any rate.
Let’s see what people think, I’ll make a note to ask in the next scores update as more people will read that. I’m also aware I’ve not updated this page so I’ll do that after this weekend.
Thanks for the suggestion.
