Welcome to Week 7 of the Too Much Racing Game!
This is the start of the serious business – Formula 1 and IndyCar kick off this weekend and I really hope you play along! Forget the past scores, we’ve got a whole season ahead of us. Let’s go.
Quick-Start
Racing this week:
Formula 1 – Bahrain GP, Sakhir;
IndyCar – Sao Paulo Indy 300, streets of Sao Paulo;
All you have to do is reply to this post and pick up to 10 drivers! The only limit? No more than 7 in one race.
The cutoff is Friday 12th March at 11.59pm GMT. Call it midnight Friday night. Good luck!
For the full results from Week 6, read on. I will endeavour to have results up next Monday or Tuesday as I will be away for a week after that, more details below.
How To Enter
1. Reply to this post.
2. List up to 10 drivers, with no more than 7 from a single event.
3. Send your entry before the stated deadline, usually some time on a Friday. You can make as many changes as you like until the closing point, I’ll take your last entry.
Most weeks feature 2 or 3 races, some weeks may have more than that and some may only have one. There’s not a rule stating you have to choose from each race, any combination of up to 10 drivers is accepted.
Don’t worry if you didn’t enter the first few weeks – there can be big differences in scoring from week to week so you have the chance to catch up, or how about just playing for fun?

NASCAR
Following a shocking crash in the closing stages between Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski which eventually lead to a green/white/chequered finish, Kurt Busch took the win in Atlanta ahead of Matt Kenseth and Juan Pablo Montoya. I’ve pictured Busch and Montoya because I am continually amazed at how their respective powerhouse teams of Penske and Ganassi are able to fight each other across disciplines, often simultaneously, from NASCAR to IndyCar to GrandAm, and still beat the rest of the opposition (with the proviso that Montoya hasn’t won in Cup yet, but he’s up there). As a side note, it was interesting to see Speed get a decent result for a change!
WRC
Down in Mexico, Sebastien Loeb took a dominant win over Petter Solberg’s customer Citroen, and the two were probably the class of the field all weekend after Petter set the pace on Friday. Sebastien Ogier made it an all-Citroen podium, making up for the loss of Sordo (15th) and Raikkonen (DNF). Ford struggled throughout the weekend and had to settle for 4th and 5th. Several retirements in the WRC class means the S2000 frontrunners Pons and Prokop feature in the top ten, as does Production class winner Araujo.
For the purposes of TMR scoring, drivers who retired on Friday or Saturday and failed to rejoin the rally, and subsequently don’t appear in the final results sheet, have not been scored. Drivers who retired but then rejoined with a time penalty are scored as normal.

James’ lead over The Speedgeek has been reduced by 34 points to just 22, with a further 29 back to me in 3rd. RG is hanging on to 4th but is the next target for the ever-advancing Sebastian and Sean. Dank falls back 3 places after not entering, the NASCAR scores weren’t quite enough for our 3 ‘carry over’ entries this week though they were decent race scores in their own right!
Week 7
There are TWO events this week.
Formula 1 – Bahrain
I don’t think an entry list is all that necessary for F1, I’m pretty sure all the players follow it well enough! I hope the first Grand Prix of the year will attract some new players too. It will be fascinating to see what the rule changes and added teams will bring to the picture – and to see who you pick as your top finishers!
IndyCar – Sao Paulo
The inaugural running of the Sao Paulo Indy 300 which will be run on the city streets rather than at Interlagos. Questions about the wisdom of this move will no doubt be answered on Sunday! Many of you will know about IndyCar, many won’t. For those that don’t I’ve been trying to find an entry list but there doesn’t seem to be one right now – you’ll have to make do with the Driver bio page. Be aware that some of those drivers will not appear in Brazil, most will and if you pick one that isn’t I will let you know, so check back here before the end of the week!

I will soon update the TMR Game page with the current scores, I’ve not had time just yet.
A reminder – from March 17th to 24th I will be away. I’ll have the next set of results posted next week as normal before I go away. The following week I won’t be near the blog at all so will schedule an automated post, it will be a basic post inviting entries for that week and will not feature any scores from Sebring or Bristol. I’ll do a combined results post featuring Weeks 8 and 9 in the normal slot the following week.

It seems 22 are confirmed and they are waiting on two others but I can not imagine anyone will want to pick from the two unconfirmed entries as presumably that they are struggling to be there is a sign they will struggle if they get there.

I think IndyCar is much, much more predictable than F1 ’cause you don’t always know which teams will have a good F1 setup beforehand (I mean Brawn last year?) while the same teams run up front constantly in IndyCar, so I’m gonna limit it to three for F1.

I am glad I made that late change to my team and very pleased to win week six but still a bit unhappy. When I started watching the NASCAR with 90 to go, I was delighted to see I had three drivers in the top four. By the end I had one in the top eleven, Johnson at 12th whom everyone had, and next-best 18th.
I notice we all picked Johnson and apart from the carry-overs, we all picked Loeb and Sordo. In the NASCAR, only Jackie had two in the top-five. Of the eight of us that picked new drivers, there was only a 39-point spread.
Trying to predict the way the F1 order will unfold this weekend feels like trying to juggle water but lets hope this lot cut the mustard. I may well change my mind after free practice.

I was just hoping Coyne would hire J.R. Hildebrand in a car sponsored by the US Boy Scouts (also in part because I drafted him in Andy the SpeedGeek’s game). I am not nearly as bad as say Robin Miller or Curt Cavin at whining about the lack of American drivers, and Lloyd is deserving of a ride; I just think there are several drivers including Hildebrand who deserved it more. Hildebrand won his Lights title more recently against stronger competition and seems to be a better fit in general… And if he was going to choose not to hire an American, I think Servia and Junqueira deserve it more… Granted, Lloyd still deserves a ride more than Vitor Meira, who is sponsored by the National Guard…
I do like your nation’s drivers in general though. Justin Wilson is in fact my favorite in IndyCar…

It certainly is hard to pin down the F1 order, I’ve been wondering if I made an error in going for Mercedes rather than Red Bull.

I like Lloyd and I like Hildebrand – I was wondering if Hildebrand was hanging on to get a race or test deal at USF1 and perhaps that’s why he didn’t get an IndyCar drive. After his Force India test it wouldn’t surprise me, and while I’d enjoy seeing him in F1 perhaps he’s better off staying away from the debacle of the USF1 Team and going with someone else.

I think you are being too hard on yourself.
The F1 was unpredictably predictable for the first round and the IRL was unpredictably unpredictable. If F1 had been a not untypical start-of-season attrition-fest and the rain had held off in Brazil, you would have made a killing.
Australia is often attrition-high. Is that, I wonder, more because of the track or because it is usually round one.
