How To Enter

1. Reply to this post.

2. List up to 10 drivers, with no more than 7 from a single event.

3. Send your entry before the stated deadline. You can make as many changes as you like until the closing point, I’ll take your last entry.

Most weeks feature 2 or 3 races, some weeks may have more than that and some may only have one. There’s not a rule stating you have to choose a driver in each race, any combination of up to 10 drivers is accepted.

On to the results!

Points Awarded – Week 23

Sebastian has been keeping his own records of the scores and has kindly made them available for all players to see, his tables are presented differently to mine and show a break-down of points awarded to each player’s drivers. You can view the table here.

Player IndyCar N-Cup DTM Week 23
1 Sebastian 145 0 203 348
2 Sean 217 0 103 320
3 Startledbunny 131 86 83 300
4 James 110 40 133 283
5 RG 57 1 221 279
6 The Speedgeek 174 0 102 276
7 Pat W 169 7 88 264
8 Burwellian 0 0 111 111
9 Dank 0 76 0 76
10 Jon Waldock 0 66 0 66
11 Jackie 0 23 0 23

Congratulations Sebastian! A very strong selection of DTM drivers backed up with some top finishers in IndyCar and no Cup picks at all secures the top spot this week. Sean was runner-up with something of an opposing strategy, several IndyCar drivers, a few DTM and again no Cup. Startledbunny took 3rd with a mix of all three series.

A midfield pack of James, RG, Speedgeek and myself follow on from the lead group. James had a good spread across the series while the rest of us were strong in one area but were let down elsewhere. This means Sebastian beat James in their challenge for a second week!

The bottom four failed to register an entry within the allotted time. I need to find time on a Thursday to remind people as my Friday reminders are obviously not being sent early enough!

Everyone either skipped the Cup restrictor plate race or picked sparingly for it, the exceptions being the carryover entrants who all had Cup and F1 picks.

Overall Standings – Week 23

Pos Pre +/- Name Prior Wk 23 Total Gap
1 1 0 Sebastian 5664 348 6012 0
2 2 0 Pat W 5532 264 5796 216
3 3 0 The Speedgeek 5453 276 5729 283
= 4 0 RG 5450 279 5729 283
5 5 0 Sean 5306 320 5626 386
6 6 0 Jon Waldock 5286 66 5352 660
7 7 0 Startledbunny 4900 300 5200 812
8 8 0 James 4723 283 5006 1006
9 9 0 Burwellian 4461 111 4572 1440
10 10 0 Jackie 3506 23 3529 2483
11 11 0 Dank 2424 76 2500 3512

There are no position changes this week. Sebastian increases his lead but is still catchable, and myself, Speedgeek and RG pretty much hold station in points terms. Completing the top five, Sean essentially makes up the points gap he lost relative the three ahead of him last week.

The rest of the field are quite spaced apart now. Jon didn’t score well and Startledbunny has had two high scores in a row, the two will surely be fighting each other soon.

Results sheets are available on the TMR drop.io.

Coming Up – Week 24

Four events this week:

Formula 1 – A new-look Silverstone awaits the British Grand Prix, let’s hope it produces some great racing.

Sprint Cup – Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, a quick 1.5 mile oval I know well from IndyCar. Go to nascar.com for more info.

American Le Mans – Sportscars off to the flats somewhere vaguely near Salt Lake City, Utah. This course is at altitude and that affects the engines. Unfortunately this event has only attracted 34 entries across classes, which is unusually low. Check the list at www.americanlemans.com

WRC – Rally Bulgaria is a new event to the WRC and although it has been running in regional and local championships since 1970, it could spring some surprises for the crews. This is the first asphalt rally of 2010. Check the list at www.rallybulgaria.com

Enjoy the races!

  4. Apologies for my outrageous triple-luck in week 23. With my picks, I wanted DTM and IRL to be usual-suspects-doing-well races which both were, and the NASCAR to be carnage which again happened, and I did not deserve such a good result.

As you know, I take this game far too seriously. Thus I add up the scores myself on Sunday/Monday to see how I did. I suggested to Patrick after picking up an error for Burwellian in last week’s scores that I e-mail my totals in to him so any that did not tally could be rechecked before the post (often my scoring-sheets have not matched final scores because I did not double-check the adding or had mis-copied a selection). Since he agreed, I realised I would really like to send Patrick a copy of my scoring-sheet (done on A4 with fountain-pen-and-ruler) but I do not have a scanner. So I figured I would put together an HTML-table, plonk it on an isolated page on my blog, and e-mail the link. Well, I got all perfectionist about it, decided I would do a fully presentable table, and suggest to Pat that he link to it in the blog which he did. If you have 1280 x 768, it should all fit in if you set the browser to full-screen, otherwise you might need to zoom. Sorry it is the week I did so unfairly well that I have first done this. (I actually got v. annoyed with WordPress HTML ruining my cell-borders so I did the table on my browser off the hard-drive, trimmed the screen-grab and posted the image.)

I did not follow the NASCAR but understand a late big crash threw the results in the air, so it was the third week that late-race events in the NASCAR damaged James’s score. So in the James-Sebastian like-for-like challenge, I gained 65 points, increasing my lead to 83; 4757 to James, 4840 to myself. Still close as weeks so far have ranged from my gaining 66 to James gaining 68.
