Calendar

In order to watch too much racing you will need to know when it happens. Keep up with your favourite racing series by adding these calendars to your Google Calendar, Apple iCal, Microsoft Outlook, or any other service which supports the ICAL or HTML formats.

Just click the link for the racing series you want to import and it will appear in your calendar.

If you use Google or iCal the updates should appear automatically without needing to do any more.
If you download and import them into an offline calendar you will need to update them from time to time.

Scroll down to the table below to pick your championships!

Scroll beneath the table for reasons you should use these calendars!

Email Alerts Broken

Part of the functionality of Google Calendar is that you can choose to be notified by email whenever there is a change to a calendar. This seems to be broken. Every time I add a date to F1 or MotoGP I get a load of emails saying the notification email has been blocked. There is no error message included and I have no idea why it is doing it.

Calendar List

Each series has a header and three items underneath the header:

  • Link to series website for latest news and weekend timetable.
  • ICAL link.
  • HTML link.

For iCal (iPhone, iPad, Mac) – and possibly others:
Copy the ICAL link. Open iCal and find Add Calendar and choose Add Subscription Calendar, then paste the link into the box.
ICAL is not restricted to Apple devices, try it on others.

For Google Calendar:
Click the HTML link then click the +GoogleCalendar icon at the bottom right.

Other:
Try both links and pick the one that works best for your app.

Apps work differently:

  • Some apps subscribe to real time updates, this means when I change a date it will update for you as well. Google Calendar does this.
  • Other apps download the data one time only and you will need to come back here to get the most recent files.

I recommend Google Calendar, it’s what I use to create these calendars and it updates your list as soon as I press Save on an event.

Why Use These Calendars?

June 2015 IWTM Calendar with 21st selected.
June 2015 IWTM Calendar with the 14th selected. (click for large)
Agenda for 21st June 2015
Agenda for 13th June 2015 and the following few days (click for large)

I’ve been updating these since the 2011 racing season. Many decisions have been taken with experience, such as to make the usability the best it can be and to reduce the admin overhead. I listen to feedback but that doesn’t mean I’ll implement it!

One championship or series = One calendar

Customise Colours
In Google Calendar you can colour-code each championship, e.g. red for F1, purple for bikes, green for endurance, brown for off-road. Or anything you like!

Races Only
Races are why we are all here. Practice sessions clutter the feed meaning you can’t find the races. Trust me, I’ve tried. Clarity is better.

Dates, Not Times
Sorry, it is a big job track race times. Unfortunately these aren’t always released when the dates themselves are released which means I would have to check them every week. I don’t have the time in my personal life to dedicate to this for 30+ series on a weekly basis. I see my job as telling you what weekend a race is happening and leave it to you to check the start time and timezone conversion.

No TV Times
I don’t know where you live!

Event Titles
Event titles are as consistent as possible. A shortened series name followed by the event name and sometimes a comment.

F1 – Singapore Grand Prix
IndyCar – 106th
Indianapolis 500
WEC – 24 Heures du Mans
GTWC Europe – Hockenheim (3hr)
NASCAR Cup – Blu-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 (Martinsville)

I try to keep the correct name where I can but these entries need to be readable on mobile, so I will shorten them or make them easier to read.

If the race is just a sponsor name I will include the track to make it easier to know that the Blu-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 is at Martinsville. I know it’s in the location field as well but let’s make life easy.

Multiple races on the same day will have a comment, e.g.
28 Aug – BTCC – Thruxton (3 races)

Series that have standalone races on different days will have two entries, e.g.
3 Dec – Repco Supercars – Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 R1 (250km)
4 Dec – Repco Supercars – Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 R2 (250km)

Rallies and endurance races get one entry for the entire event. This includes the Creventic 24H Series, which often runs the first few hours on a Friday, throws a yellow and parks up overnight, then runs the rest of the race the next morning.

‘Misc’ Calendar
Catch-all. It includes such things as the Dakar Rally, Goodwood Festival of Speed, Isle of Man TT, Nurburgring 24 Hours and anything else that pops into my head.

‘Other Sport’ Calendar
I made this for my own benefit for the Olympics & Paralympics. I like to know that I’m not going to miss the Tour de France or the Six Nations! It is heavily biased toward sports I watch, isn’t updated very often and maybe it should be private, I just thought it might help other people know when the clashes are.

There are a lot of calendars now, including series I don’t watch. It is very easy to miss things. Please help me out if you see if something has changed!

If you find these useful please do comment and most importantly share them.

  1. Hi Pat,

Will you be updating GT World Challenge EU & Asia? Looks like the websites link to the old blancpain series, which nbd, as it redirects to the new one.

    Thanks for all your work!

  2. Hi AB,
Yes I plan to have all the GT series done ready for the IMSA Rolex 24 at the end of the month so that during the race I can point people here! I’ve been very busy lately though so I’m behind my schedule. I need to focus on series that start up first and also the bikes which are really popular.

Thanks for letting me know about the website links – fixed!

  3. This is awesome!! Thank you very much! Quick question, I’ve downloaded a some gt calendars that showed me the 2022 season, does it update automatically when you do it or should I check the website later and download a new version?

  4. Hi Agustin,
If you subscribed using Google Calendar or iCal it should update automatically.
I know with some services, it downloads and imports it as it is at the time of download, in that case you would need to download again later.
Do you have IGTC? I’m adding dates to that today.

  8. Any chance you’ll be adding the SRX (Superstar Racing Experience) series that Tony Stewart founded?

  9. Hi Pat, just want to say, absolutely amazing job on this website, thank you soooo much.
Just a few suggestions on other series to add if you ever want/are able to(Of course I understand that you may not be able to since you have lots of other series to update and an actual life to live :-)!)
    Super formula lights
    eSports series (F1, endurance, etc)
    Ferrari challenge (Europe, NA, etc)
    Truck racing (British, European, etc)
Boat, flying championships, drone racing (I know I’m just naming the most random series now hehe)
    ARCA MENARDS series
    Any F4 championships
Karting world championships/any other important series
Also the one which Tony Stewart has made I think someone already mentioned it.
I know you probably won’t be able to do most if any of these because of your scheduled, but they are just some suggestions!! Thanks again

  10. Hey Thomas, thanks for the comment. 🙂

SRX I think I said I would add and then totally forgot to do it, so maybe I’ll do that?

I’ve always tried to stick to the general rule of stopping at F3 & GT3/GT4, or whatever the equivalent is for other disciplines.

The more difficult question is the other GT series. There are so many and I’ve only covered some of them. Theoretically I should include Fanatec GT Australia and FFSA and probably a lot more I don’t know about. And there’s an LMP3 series in Germany. But where do you stop? What is the demand? I wish I could access the stats.

There are three issues with the workload:
    1) the mass upload to start the year is never done quickly enough for everyone. 🙂
    2) keeping up with changes in the year is hard for series I do not follow.
    3) my day job is very busy so I’m quite tired most evenings, all I want to do is mess around on Twitter.

Thanks for the enthusiasm, it keeps me going.

  11. I absolutely understand, thanks for taking the time to reply! Of course it’s hard with lesser known series, so I am absolutely fine with that, especially with how long it must take you with other series anyway.

  12. Hi Pat,
the rallycross season is going to start soon and it’s time to watch Loeb again (and a bunch of other great drivers).
I have notice that the WRX weblink and calendar are not updated. I can just point you to the official website:
    https://www.fiaworldrallycross.com/world-rx/
Thank you for your effort and for showing me a lot of previously unkown races.

Sorry I thought it started in June and I had lots of time – I missed that Euro RX starts very soon!
    All done now.

  14. I know I’ve commented in the past, but I’ll again thank you for the work you do.

I have a crazy idea, and I do mean crazy.

What if there was a way to add just one ical file that had all the race series you list? It’d be overwhelming to some folks, but I think it has potential. (I’ve got gobs of RAM and CPU, so it won’t hurt me any.)

  18. Hey Pat,

Thanks again for another year of your very useful motorsport calendars. Saves me so much time and helps me to plan ahead.

Please find a small contribution to your Tip Jar. (Everyone, see the side panel PayPal icon or at the bottom on mobile).

Once again, looking forward to next year which will begin with Dakar for me.

  19. I’m keeping an eye on the Dubai 24H situation and have moved it to the new date. I’m hoping they won’t need to move it again.
Otherwise I’ve decided to use this break as an actual break. I know my January is going to be very busy. I’ll be fitting in 2024 dates where I can.

  22. If people have minor series they want featured, why not compile a Google calendar yourself and contribute it to Pat instead of pleading for him to do all the work.

    It’s not difficult.

  23. I’ve edited my original reply to Devin as it was a little harsh. 🙂 I was a bit stressed from the day job. I work in accounts and we’re doing Month End this week while I’m also learning a new role, it is a very busy time for me.

The plan is the same as every year: series with earlier start dates get done first. I’m just later than usual – I used to get this started in November! But I am following the same path as last year which is start in the first week of January. For the majority of series this is fine, they don’t start until March.

I do know the likes of Daytona 24 and Dubai 24 are coming up and so is Formula E, which is why I’ve started with 24H Series and FE. Current plan is to spend Saturday doing the three IMSA series I cover. I had hoped to get one of these done tonight but I was too tired. I will probably do FIA WEC straight after, just because of the IMSA/ACO links there.

I appreciate David’s comment as well. I’ve never really been a fan of collecting other people’s calendars. I feel for quality control I still have to check the workings, so I might as well do it myself. But it may be a way forward: turn this into a community site where I list people’s contributions in one place. The whole site needs a redesign anyway. 🙂 I will think about it again.

There is another site called Raceday.watch (that’s the URL), which has significantly more information. It’s a community effort, so if you want minor series and events with start times and links to official TV/streaming coverage it seems a good place to go. It is all based on the website though, I don’t see an easy way to extract to Google Calendar.

To Michael’s request from December, I once included Britcar, but I removed it to save time. I consider it a step below British GT rather than an equal. Maybe I’m wrong in that. I’m keeping this as the top series in each type of racing and in each part of the world. Being British-based I have been tempted to include more British series – but that would open me up to requests for national series all over the place which I’m never going to have the time to do.

I’m not planning to cover any more dirt tracks as it would mean I’d have to cover WoO and there are so many dates I can’t do it.
