2018 FIA World Rally Championship

The WRC is the highest level of special stage rallying and features iconic events such as Rallye Monte-Carlo and Rally Finland.

What’s Changed?

New/Returning:

• Rally Turkey.

Deleted:

• Rally Poland (moves to ERC).

Rally Turkey returns to the schedule for the first time since 2010, relocated to the southern resort of Marmaris.

Rally Poland drops away, moving back down to the FIA European Rally Championship. It is a shame to lose Poland from an FIA World Championship but there was some criticism of the event organisation.

I visited Marmaris in 2002. I understand the city itself has been heavily impacted by tourism since then – not necessarily in a good way. I remember the Turks being very hospitable people and the surrounding area is stunningly beautiful so I am sure it is still well worth the visit!

The only other change for 2018 is a date swap between Rally GB and Rally Catalunya.

FIA European Rally Championship

The FIA ERC is a continental series of stage rallies usually held over two days. European drivers and teams – and events – use it as a stepping-stone to the WRC.

Rally Rzeszow (Poland) falls off the calendar as the primary Rally Poland take the ERC berth following the demotion from WRC status. WRC Rally Poland was held in in July, the ERC version will be held in late September.

Rally di Roma Capitale moves up from September to July.
