Now this is a massively busy week, including one of the most stupid date clashes of the year, between the Nurburgring 24 Hours and the European Le Mans Series.
Apologies for not writing a recap of last weekend. I actually went to the Blancpain GT Sprint at Brands Hatch to sit on the grass in the glorious sunshine watching GT racing, which I didn’t preview at all, and I haven’t yet seen any of the other events I did write about! With the upcoming weekend so full it looks like I may not catch up for some time.
Germany’s top series expands to ten race events again, the first time at that number since the series switched to 2 races each weekend.
Once again it will be a battle between three big German marques, Audi, BMW and Mercedes AMG. It will be the final season for Mercedes AMG who will depart for Formula E at the end of the year after 19 seasons, having been present since the rebirth of DTM in 2000.
2018 is set to be the final year of the current rules package, in 2019 there will be new rules closely aligned with Super GT’s GT500 cars.

Or unofficially ‘World TCR’, this is the result of a merger, or takeover, between the FIA WTCC and the TCR International Series.
Effectively Eurosport Events, the people behind WTCC, will adopt the TCR rulebook. Factory teams are out, privateers are in, many from the TCR series. The reduction of factory teams means a downgrade from ‘FIA Championship’ status to ‘FIA Cup’, but that shouldn’t matter, most importantly the racing should be excellent.
In terms of calendar housekeeping, I used the WTCC calendar and renamed it.
If you remain subscribed to my TCR International series calendar, I will now be using this for the new TCR Europe continental series. Link on the main Calendar page.
